I first met Roman Ansari at a Waves coffee shop in downtown Vancouver BC, last June 2017 during a local Meetup event. At this time in my life, I had been going through personal hardships, such as a recent relationship ending and illness within my family. I first heard of Meetup Vancouver after trying to discover ways to meet new people in a city that is now notorious for being considered isolating and work-centric. I hoped to distinguish myself from this reputation that my hometown has adopted, by expanding my social circle and enriching my life with new experiences. Roman has gone above and beyond in answering that calling. Upon first meeting Roman, I noted how friendly and approachable he was to everyone around him. His sociable nature and my curiosity in his demeanor led to a fast friendship between the two of us. Every moment that I step outside my home to greet Roman, adventure awaits. He has allowed me to explore the depths of the city where I was born and raised in areas that I didn’t even know existed. One recent example of this is when he invited me along for an excursion to T’sek Hot Springs in Lillooet Lake, British Columbia. This trip enabled me to experience the beauty of BC that I always see in photographs but had never witnessed firsthand. I was also able to share this experience with many new and wonderfully diverse people, that I would likely not have met otherwise. It is no secret that Roman’s circle of friends is large, but what is amazing is how he can still treat each of his friends in a unique and individualistic way. Nobody feels as though they are just another number on a large roster of social encounters, but that there is a personal connection to Roman. I think the aspect that truly sets Roman apart is his ability to see the beauty in others and the surroundings around him. This is clearly evident in his creation of beautiful photographs, and the increased self-perception that many others gain after meeting Roman. My circle of friends has increased dramatically since meeting Roman, and he has inspired me to be kind to my neighbors while I am in transit, at the store, or wherever else I may be. At this time in our lives, it is so easy to be bombarded with media stories of conflict and separation all across the world. However, Roman has imparted me with a solid reminder that I can create a community with anyone around me. There are always similarities among each other, even if it may not be so obvious, and Roman is able to identify those and build strong bonds. He has motivated me to impart happiness to others and remember that I can live a life of ambition and enjoyment.

I'm going to share an experience I had the other night . My photographer had setup a meeting with a person interested in providing us his services . At the moment I didn't know he was a known photographer . We arrived on time at met with him . He invited us into his creative space . As we walked in and the lights came on it was amazing as we seen a shoot set equipped with lights remote control backdrops a workspace for editing his work high ceilings . Made you feel like you were on some sort of movie set ! As a photographer I am always looking to expand my circle of friends with a similar passion for photography and the arts. Art is meaningless if you cannot share it with other people. Meetup.com is a good vehicle to do this but I had found that most of the groups and organizers sole interest was to make a quick buck and I had become very disappointed in these groups. Because I am experienced enough I used to organize my own photoshoots rather than depend on these groups. In Feb of 2018 I noticed a new group was forming; "Pacific Northwest Photo Artists" and I am not sure why but I decided to give it a chance and see if this group was different than the others. I am glad I did. This group was indeed different. They seemed to share the same values as I do and organize decent events. By decent I don't just mean that they were good but that the people it attracted were the right kind of people, "decent people".
It is through this group that I eventually met the organizer Roman Ansari and quickly found out why this group was so great. It was all due to the personality and character of Roman Ansari. These days it is not very often that you find a person that you can truly trust. Someone that puts your interests before his. Someone that when he asks you how you are doing he truly means it and is not just a polite greeting.
Roman has many talents such as fluency in many languages. But his true talent is his ability to meet and support people. Because of this talent his circle of friends is indeed large. However, he treats every single one as an individual. He truly cares about his or her wellbeing.
Roman knows that a great friendship is a two way street but he often gives more than he receives or expects from that friendship. I have seen the positive impact he has had on many of the models he has worked with and I see how he strives to support them. He has had a great impact on myself as well, teaching me what he knows about photography and offered me many opportunities to expand my expertise in photography.
While I have only known Roman for a short period of time, I consider him a true friend and believe me when I say that I am very critical of who I call my friend.

The first time I shot with him, I was surprised he didn’t take many photos like most photographers do. He only took maybe 3 shots of myself and said he was done. I was astonished, but once he provided me all three of those photos I was super surprised on how amazing they turned out.
